Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced $62 million in awards for projects in five states across the Southeastern United States. The awards were provided through EDA’s FY 2025 Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance programs, which leverage existing regional assets and support the implementation of economic development strategies to support distressed communities.
The EDA awards announced today are:
- Albany, Kentucky: $24.1 million for water infrastructure improvements to ensure safe drinking water and support local industries.
- Tallahassee State College (Tallahassee, Florida): $17.1 million for construction of a workforce training facility to house vocational programs and create jobs in the region.
- Partners for Rural Impact, Inc. (Mount Vernon, Kentucky): $12.3 million for construction of an economic mobility and resilience hub to support workforce development and strengthen the local economy.
- Southwestern Community College (Sylva, North Carolina): $2.6 million for infrastructure improvements in support of a new workforce development and small business center.
- Bishop State Community College (Mobile, Alabama): $2.0 million to supply a submarine, marine electric, and manufacturing training program.
- Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians (Choctaw, Mississippi): $1.9 million to supply an advanced workforce training facility, supporting job certification in the region.
- Fayetteville Public Works Commission (Fayetteville, North Carolina): $1.5 million for water infrastructure improvements to support the local manufacturing industry.
