FEMA: Nearly $180 Million Announced to Help Communities Strengthen Their Resilience Against Future Disasters

Today, FEMA announced nearly $180 million in grant funding to states and territories across the country. This funding will empower community leaders to take decisive steps to protect infrastructure and people from future disasters. This funding aligns with President Donald J. Trump’s America First Resilience Strategy, which calls for a new, risk-informed approach that treats resilience as an investment opportunity. It also delivers on the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mullin’s commitment to empowering state and local officials to manage their own disaster preparedness which includes being locally executed, state managed and federally supported.

“Since President Trump was sworn into office, he has been clear that emergency preparedness and disaster response are most effectively managed by state and local governments rather than federal bureaucrats,” said FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton. “The funding announced today will enable states, territories, Tribal Nations and local governments to proactively mitigate the impact of future disasters like earthquakes, floods and wildfires. By putting these leaders in charge of their own disaster resilience, we empower them to use their local knowledge to make strategic decisions on what projects will have the most impact for their community.”

The funding announced today is for three separate mitigation programs:
