Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.2 million grant to the city of South Sioux City, Nebraska, to construct a 2.5 million-gallon water storage tank to be used by the expanding Roth Industrial Park. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to create 145 jobs and generate $145 million in private investment.
“President Trump is working hard to revitalize our country’s infrastructure and build the foundations for a thriving economy,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “These grants will attract new business to the region and help provide South Sioux City with the water tower it needs.”
“Nebraska is committed to building a world-class infrastructure so that this state ranks atop the list of attractive places to live, work, and do business,” said Governor Ricketts. “I am grateful to the Trump Administration and the EDA for its investment in South Sioux City’s water system. This grant will bring jobs and growth to the northeast part of our state. I applaud the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council for its work on the grant proposal and for the tristate cooperation that has helped Siouxland to thrive.”

Specifically, this project will help construct a 2.5 million-gallon water storage tank. The new tank will be tied into the system’s existing water infrastructure, addressing the local and regional need for additional water storage capacity. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council. EDA funds the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
