EDA: $750,000 Invested to Build a Business Incubator in Hinesville, GA

Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $750,000 grant to the City of Hinesville Development Authority of Hinesville, Georgia, to help construct a business incubator, supporting the community’s growth and development.

“We commend the City of Hinesville for creating new opportunities for the community to grow and thrive,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs Dennis Alvord. “This project will help strengthen the local economy by providing a facility where entrepreneurs can develop new businesses.”

This investment funds the establishment of a business incubator adjacent to a new public library and within close proximity to Georgia Southern University’s Liberty Campus. The project will help the region recover from wind and flood damage caused by Hurricane Irma last year, with approximately 5,000 square feet to accommodate 12 new business clients. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Coastal Regional Commission. EDA funds the Coastal Regional Commission to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment, and create jobs.

This project is funded under the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 (PL 115-123) (PDF), in which Congress appropriated to EDA $600 million in additional Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) Program (PDF) funds for disaster relief and recovery as a result of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, wildfires, and other calendar year 2017 natural disasters under the Stafford Act.
