EDA: Investment Made to Support the Growth of Georgia’s Manufacturing Sector

Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced that it is investing $960,000 in sewer infrastructure improvements needed to support the growth of manufacturing and other businesses in the town of Braselton, Georgia, an investment that will be matched with $240,000 in local funds. The project is expected to create 183 jobs and generate $26 million in private investment. “President Trump is dedicated to helping communities across the nation develop the critical infrastructure they need to support business development and growth,” said U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Dr. John Fleming. “This investment in Braselton will help provide the critical infrastructure improvements needed to support an electric automobile manufacturing facility and serve other future business needs.” The project will help to increase the capacity of the Town of Braselton, Georgia’s municipal sewer system to support current and future business needs, including those of a major electric automobile manufacturer. This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission. EDA funds Northeast Georgia Regional Commission to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.

This project is funded under the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 (PL 115-123) (PDF), in which Congress appropriated to EDA $600 million in additional Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) Program (PDF) funds for disaster relief and recovery as a result of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, wildfires and other calendar year 2017 natural disasters under the Stafford Act.
