FEMA: Major Disaster Declaration Approved for Alaska

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Alaska to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe storm from September 28 to September 30, 2017.

Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storm in the North Slope Borough.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Thomas J. Dargan has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Dargan said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of damage assessments.
