FEMA announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Louisiana to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Barry from July 10-15, 2019.
FEMA’s Public Assistance funding is available to the state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Hurricane Barry in Allen, Iberia, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Mary, Terrebonne, and Vermillion parishes.
Federal funding is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain private non-profit organizations on a cost sharing basis for debris removal and emergency protective measures (Categories A and B), including direct federal assistance for Public Assistance in Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Jefferson, Orleans, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. John the Baptist, Tangipahoa, and West Feliciana parishes.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation statewide.
John E. Long has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Long said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
