For each qualified nonprofit on our platform, we provide over 90 data points of information broken out into six sections to assist with your CRA review. This data includes:

Overview – Quickly access key info about the organization, its mission and activities, and how it aligns with CRA.

CRA Alignment – Gain deeper insight into how the nonprofit aligns with CRA, including the nonprofit’s CDFI status, whether its a HUC Certified counseling agency, as well as recent tax credits awards or CDFI awards. If a nonprofit has claimed its profile, this section can give you further insight into the organization and its specific activities, including program and service info as well as % LMI served.

IRS Summary – Review key facts about nonprofit’s IRS status, tax deductibility, financials, tax filings and more.

Location – Review data related to the nonprofit’s physical location, including standardized geocoding data and any CRA-relevant geography designations, such as distressed, underserved, remote rural, Opportunity Zone, and others.

Market Data – Analyze key Census data including population, housing, income and more, at both the census tract level and the count level.

Management – Review key info about the nonprofits Board, Principal officer, and policies and procedures related to governance and financial reporting.

Our data compilation starts with a detailed understanding of the Community Reinvestment Act itself; we not only look at the Act and the implementing regulations, but also the Interagency Questions & Answers. We also looked closely at the examination procedures used to examine banks, published by their federal regulators – the OCC, the FDIC and the Federal Reserve.  In addition to that, we utilize the information provided by the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council on their website.

Using all of these laws, regulations and data as a baseline, coupled with our own experience as bankers and CRA professionals, we ensure that CRANIA, our Community Reinvestment Nonprofit Identification Algorithm, incorporates these as decisioning guidelines.  We further compile data from over 20 trusted government and industry resources, including:

    • The U.S. Census Bureau
    • The Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
    • The Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Fund
    • The Small Business Administration
    • The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC)
    • The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
    • The National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS)

We ensure that whenever possible, we are utilizing the most up-to-date sources available and periodically update our database with new information when the agencies make it available.
