About: The Struggle for Miami’s Affordable and Sustainable Housing (SMASH) was founded in 2016 to fight slumlords and gentrification in Liberty City, Overtown and Little Havana. SMASH is a part of the “Smash the Slumlords” Campaign, which has been going on since March of 2014. We have been meeting with members of the community about what their dreams and aspirations are, and how slumlords, gentrification and the Affordable Housing Crisis are preventing them from achieving those dreams. We are excited to finally be so close to the creation of permanent affordable housing for the low-income communities of Miami.
