FDIC: SUNY Geneseo Wins Third Annual FDIC Academic Challenge

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) today announced a four–member team of undergraduate students from the State University of New York College at Geneseo is the winner of the Third Annual FDIC Academic Challenge, a competition among university and college undergraduate students concerning the U.S. banking sector.

The FDIC selected the team of Jenna Huizinga, Ian Merrihew, Jake Syzmanski, and Chris Bridenbaugh led by faculty advisor Leonie Stone as recipients of the FDIC 2022-2023 Academic Challenge recognition.

The FDIC also recognized the other finalist teams: California State University Fullerton, James Madison University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

The FDIC’s Center for Financial Research hosted the 2022–2023 Academic Challenge, which consisted of two rounds. In the first round of the competition, teams of undergraduate students used multiple public data sources to prepare a written submission. In the second round, finalist teams presented their findings and answered questions from a panel of judges who work in the areas of banking and bank supervision.
