FEMA: President Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes and the Crow Tribe of Montana

FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to members of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe winter storm and straight-line winds from December 17-18, 2025. FEMA also announced that disaster assistance is available to members of the Crow Tribe of Montana in the areas affected by a severe winter storm and straight-line winds from December 17-19, 2025.

The President’s action makes federal funding available to affected individuals and families of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, and the Crow Tribe of Montana. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Katherine B. Fox has been named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes. Edwin J. Martin has been named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas of the Crow Tribe of Montana.

Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the Tribal Nations and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.

Tribal members who sustained losses on or near the designated areas should first file a claim with their insurance provider.
