ABA: “Take Your Lawmaker to Work” Program Kicks Off

Members of Congress invited to experience a ‘day in the life’ as a bank employee

WASHINGTON — August marks the start of the American Bankers Association’s “Take Your Lawmaker to Work” program – an annual initiative that encourages bankers to host their elected policymakers at a local branch. Bankers across the country have invited members of Congress to see in person how banks operate and to meet some of the 2 million Americans who work at our nation’s banks.

“America’s banks all want the same thing – to serve their customers and support their local economies,” said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO.

“This program gives lawmakers an inside look at the business and its daily operations, and allows them to return to Washington with a better understanding of how their policy decisions impact a bank’s ability to carry out that goal.”

A number of visits are scheduled to take place while lawmakers are home during their district work period and additional visits are scheduled to take place through November.
Institutions participating in Take Your Lawmaker to Work will offer insights and expertise that demonstrate how important banks are to their local economies, and will show lawmakers first-hand how the issues on their agenda in Washington affect the availability of products and services banks provide to help customers achieve their financial goals.
