The American Bankers Association announced the appointment of four new members to the advisory board of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking, the industry’s preeminent graduate school offered in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
The advisory board, which consists of 14 industry leaders from across the nation, works closely with the curriculum director, ABA leadership and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School to help shape the strategic direction of the school. Advisory board members may also serve as capstone advisors and are very active on campus.
“Our new advisory board members are all Stonier graduates who will pair an intimate knowledge of the program with fresh ideas for continuing to elevate the curriculum,” said Jim Edrington, ABA’s chief member engagement officer. “Their contributions and insight will be extremely valuable to Stonier’s mission of grooming the industry’s future leaders and preparing them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
The new members of the Stonier advisory board include:
- Duncan Campbell, president, Pennsylvania Bankers Association;
- Ira Robbins, president and treasurer, Valley National Bank (Wayne, NJ);
- Patti Steele, president & CEO, First Volunteer Bank (Chattanooga, Tenn.); and
- Scott Sonbuchner, examiner, Supervision, Regulation and Credit, Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
The ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking trains the future leaders of the industry. Nine percent of last year’s 684 attendees were executive vice presidents, chairmen or CEO’s, while an additional 27 percent held the title of vice president or director. In addition, many attendees represent federal regulatory agencies or firms serving the industry. All participants are considered rising stars in their organizations and represent more than 48 states and 21 countries. For more than 80 years, Stonier has trained more than 26,000 of the nation’s top banking executives and government regulators, many of whom have reached the pinnacle of their organizations.
The ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking is now accepting applications for its 2018 program, which will be held June 7-14 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
